Description

Can we navigate documents the same way we find our way in the city?

This is an interface for a Thesaurus catalog. It shows information about architecture and society books and the relationship among them under many key concepts (year, author, line of research, etc.). The data visualization was built using flash, XML and SQL. I worked on the graphic design (although the final layout is more the client’s requirements) and the code. You can see the final project (including my client’s design wishes) in la ciudad viva.

Motivation & Process

To propose a change of attitude and an alternative to face the new problems

Cities are in a process of change and transformation.
This should be the starting point to propose a change of attitude and an alternative to face the new problems: new growth model, the value of their urban and social resources, control over energy consumption, energy efficiency , respect for the environment, economic and social cohesion of its territory, among others.

Around these ideas hundreds of documents have been published and the team from La Ciudad Viva contacted us for a simple visualization of all these documents.

The process was difficult because public institutions had a different view of how things should look like so we went from graphically very ambitious sketches to a more conventional result.

This simulation creates a graph based on the parameters introduced by the user

The Spanish Ministry of Education commissioned  the production of learning interactive web applications for schools all over the country to the company OpenYourWeb. They created the basic framework and the graphic design and I did the coding of the simulators in my company.

It is a series of applications about Chemistry and Physics with simulators that help student understand the concepts. The content was supervised by teachers.

Invitation to the exhibition

Description

This was a quite big exhibition showing the works of the architects that had won a prize in Andalusia between the years 2002-2006. It was commissioned by the Council of Architecture (Government of Andalusia) and they chose the architect Valentín Trillo to be in charge of the design of the space. He chose us to do the graphic design.

The concept

Our graphic idea was a bit critical with contests. The poster resemblances a series of sheets of the cardboard used by architects to show their projects when they send it to… a contest.

Our graphic concept was critical with awards and prizes in architecture & design.

We wanted to highlight that many architects spent many hours working for contests because it was their only way of getting some visibility. In a way, it can also resemblance a texture of a building material. So it was the play between these two what created this poster.

The work included posters, marquees, big format posters, leaflets, information displays with the winning works, videos, and invitations.

Poster: J5 Architecture Contest

Description & Process

The visual concept was that the J5 contest was starting to gain great “visibility”

In 2004, the architecture studio República DM got the assignment from the Government of Andalusia to expand the just born J5 Architecture Contest. They chose us to develop with them the graphics and the web. Thanks to it, the number of participants doubled. It went from being a local contest to getting international entries from Europe, South America and the Middle East.

My studio worked with them creating posters, leaflets and above all developing the whole process of the contest online. Participants could download the information and the materials needed to start their projects and once finished, they could download them. All questions and answers was made through the web page that we developed. Of course, the winners and the jury were also part of the information system.
